Our Federal Government Client is seeking 2 Program Managers.

This is a 12-month contract role with potential 2x12-month extensions, located in Canberra.

As the Program Manager, you will:

  • Lead and manage complex programs within DFAT's Diplomatic Security Division, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Provide leadership in program governance, including planning, budget management, reporting, risk/issue management, and dependency management.
  • Adapt and work across diverse delivery methodologies (waterfall, agile, etc.).
  • Build and lead multi-disciplinary teams, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Manage 3rd party vendors, contracts, and project deliverables, adhering to Government procurement processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across DFAT, technical experts, and external resources to achieve project outcomes.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver project activities, aligning with architecture and financial goals.
  • Develop and maintain project artifacts (plans, reports, benefits management documents).
  • Manage resource planning and coordination for assigned programs.
  • Deliver quality project outcomes aligned with business objectives and governance frameworks.
  • Conduct risk management activities, ensuring adherence to governance and comprehensive reporting.
  • Establish and maintain effective stakeholder engagement for informed input.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Negotiate and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Align project delivery and planning with broader departmental objectives.
  • Handle complex work involving technical, resource, financial, personnel, stakeholder, and procedural/governance issues.
  • Adapt quickly and flexibly to changing demands, priorities, and directions.
  • Perform other general duties as required.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Essential:
    • 5+ years of experience leading and managing complex programs within the government or related sectors.
    • Strong understanding of program governance principles and practices.
    • Experience working across diverse delivery methodologies.
    • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Deep understanding of government procurement processes and contract management.
    • Ability to analyze and mitigate risks effectively.
    • Experience developing and maintaining project artifacts.
    • Current Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 Security Clearance.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working within the Defence or national security sector.
    • Familiarity with project management methodologies like PRINCE2 or Agile.
    • Strong financial management and budgeting skills.
    • Experience managing 3rd party vendors and contracts.

Due to security clearance requirements, you must be an Australian citizen with an existibe NV1 security clearance.
