Our Federal Government Client is seeking a Product Owner.

This is a contract role until 30 June 2025, with the possibility of extension, located at our client's offices in Canberra, ACT. This is full time on site in Canberra for initial period of 3 months. Flexible working arrangements including some working from home may be considered after this period. This will be subject to a separate approval process in accordance with the Department's operational requirements and ICT Contractor Working from Home Guidelines, which still requires the contractor to be on-site in Canberra at a minimum of 3 days per week.

As the selected candidate, you will:

  • Engage with business stakeholders and provide input into the strategic vision, development, and execution of product roadmaps aligned with program objectives.
  • Drive the implementation of modern product ownership methodologies, fostering best practices, and upskilling business and cross-functional teams in product ownership principles.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including government agencies, technical teams, and business units, to define product requirements, prioritize initiatives, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Conduct research, competitive analysis, and user studies to identify opportunities for product enhancement and innovation.
  • Contribute to the program backlog through writing features and user stories with clear and testable acceptance criteria.
  • Oversee the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to working software, ensuring products meet high standards of quality, usability, and compliance within a government context.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to team members to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and accountability in product ownership.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • 4+ years proven experience in product ownership, preferably within the government sector or complex IT programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving product ownership practices, including a strong understanding of product ownership frameworks (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Lean, SAFe) and their practical application in delivering successful products.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of engaging with diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and innovation abilities, with a track record of driving innovation, problem-solving, and delivering impactful solutions in a regulated environment.
  • Leadership skills to lead and inspire teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.

Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must be Australian citizens with a minimum BASELINE security clearance prior to commencement.
