The product owner digital is accountable for representing the "voice of the customer" by identifying and sizing opportunities and together with the discovery and delivery teams implement digital capabilities to meet customer/business needs in an agile fast paced environment. This key role helps drive the right outcomes for the digital (and business) portfolio, which requires research into the market, understanding the customer needs and addressing the problem to be solved.

The Digital Product Owner's role is ultimately responsible for;
  • Ownership/Accountability of the product roadmaps and prioritising, including reporting success and performance
  • Identifying opportunities and providing insights around market and customer needs and guidance for product development
  • Be a champion of the customer - Define and execute user stories that ensure a superior customer experience when using the feature/product
  • Be the point of contact for the portfolio across the Medibank business and with external partners especially stakeholder engagement and stakeholder buy-in
  • Prioritise roadmaps/features/requirements to meet business objectives and to improve customer experience; support the business and working with the business to prioritise and meet business objectives
  • Support financial management and benefit realisation, including Business Case sign-off, stakeholder engagement and stakeholder buy-in
  • Contributing to the Digital Strategy and portfolio tactical plans


Key Accountabilities


Product/Digital Ownership
  • Identify opportunities and thoroughly understand the customer needs and how the product will satisfy those needs to describe, prioritize, and communicate the requirements that really matter and answer all related questions
  • Develop and communicate product roadmaps to illustrate at a high level how features are planned to be implemented over time
  • Drive the delivery pipeline to align the product roadmap and business priorities
  • Manage a continuous improvement schedule across the product portfolio
  • Be the champion across the Medibank business for your product
  • Improve customer loyalty (and create advocates) through valued and memorable customer interactions

Communications and Collaboration
  • Identify and build relationships with key influencers to create a digital community to enable effective delivery of communication key messages and deliverable actions
  • Build a strong and effective working relationship with the key business stakeholders and Inspire and empower internal and external customers to become advocates.
  • Lead the delivery squads (where applicable) and convey the strategy and goals to drive the right outcomes to ensure prioritisation is aligned with enterprise/digital strategy; set the right priority with the team for your portfolio
  • Participate in Discovery, Stand-ups, Iteration Planning Meetings and Retrospectives (as required).
  • Represents the customer, interfaces and engages the customer and must continuously engage the customer and stakeholders to ensure the Team is building the right feature/function and therefore delivering the ROI expected of it.
  • Excellent facilitation skills, and experience in collaborative problem solving techniques.

Customer focus
  • Thoroughly understand the customer needs and how the product/feature will satisfy those needs to describe, prioritize, and communicate the requirements that really matter and answer all related questions.
  • Continually identify and action ways to improve the Medibank customer experience
  • Improve customer loyalty (and create advocates) through valued and memorable customer interactions
  • Model customer centric behaviour and be a customer advocate

Market focus
  • By constantly keeping a pulse on the market and competitor activity the Product Owner ensures we are building products/features/capabilities to meet the market expectations.
  • Looks at future horizons for the market, customer and technology and plans the future product roadmap to take advantage upcoming and potentially disruptive trends, also ensuring we don't get left behind when the market shifts direction.
  • Performs benchmarking across competitor and similar businesses to identify competitive gaps to include in future product variations as well as share with the broader business external activity.

Finance
  • Identify success criteria for each item in your roadmap and continually monitor performance and pivot the development as required to realise the defined benefit
  • Understand overall product performance metrics and develop strategies to manage and uplift capabilities, implement controls as required
  • Manage the associated project and external costs associated with all items in your backlog and on you roadmap and ensure ROI metrics are constantly reviewed and being achieved.
  • Where required, prepare and seek approval for a Business Case for each initiative (depending on size) where you define the problem, how you're going solve it, relative priority and what the value is to Medibank.

Requirements and priorities and accept completed stories
  • Creates and maintains the Product/Discovery backlog and elaborates at the Theme and Epic level
  • Contributes to the Digital Portfolio backlog priority, acts as the proxy for the customer and business stakeholders
  • Inspects the product progress at the end of every iteration and has complete authority to accept or reject work done. Work that is either not complete needs to be re-prioritised or re-sequenced.

Reporting
  • Communicates status externally. The product Owner is the voice of the Team and should ensure that all channels of communications are open and that projects have the right amount of support required to succeed.

  • Min 3+ years' experience managing digital products as Product Owner or Producer
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Effective communication skills (both in conversation and in writing), especially focused on running work-sessions and articulating and defending product decisions
  • Demonstrated success in structured problem solving that includes problem definition, hypotheses testing, analysis plan and facilitating discussions
  • Ability to uncover and understand technology requirements and capabilities
  • Creative and analytical problem solving skills
  • Can demonstrate curiosity and collaboration
  • Has delivered key projects autonomously
  • The ability to identify opportunities and action initiatives in a timely manner and actively understanding the surrounding environment
