Our Federal Government client is looking for an experienced Linux Engineer for an initial 12 month contract.

About the Role:

The Linux Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the server environment is secure, stable and effectively maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

The role is within a team responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and security of:

All of the agency's Linux hosts (~600) primarily Ubuntu with some RHEL.
Base infrastructure services consumed by other IT teams such as:

  • Virtualisation (VMware),
  • Block and file storage (Pure Storage),
  • Backup (Cohesity) and
  • Index/search (Splunk).

Core applications relied on by the entire agency such as:

  • DNS (BIND),
  • NTP,
  • SMTP (Postfix),
  • Web proxying (Squid and Forcepoint/Websense), and
  • RSA SecurID.

Skills/Requirements:

  • 5-7+ Years Linux Engineering experience
  • A deep understanding of Linux including networking, package management, auditd, SElinux/AppArmor, IPTABLES/NFTABLES, TLS, PKI
  • Experience in the strategies and techniques required to implement the ACSC's Essential Eight in a Linux environment.
  • Experience with tracking and monitoring tools like JIRA, Confluence, Zabbix, Splunk, or comparable technologies.
  • Available to work 2-3 days per week at the office in a Hybrid working environment.
  • Australian Citizen with Baseline or NV1 Minimum Clearance.
