Our Federal Government Client require the services of an experienced ICT Configuration Manager to be imbedded in one of their critical programs to ensure successful planning and execution into a shared service model.

The ICT Configuration Manager plays a pivotal role in the operational and strategic layers of IT service management within the enterprise. They are responsible for overseeing the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and ensuring accurate documentation, tracking, and management of all IT assets, including portable assets like laptops, mobile devices, as well as infrastructure throughout their lifecycle.

The Configuration Manager's responsibilities extend beyond mere maintenance and encompass a holistic approach to enable an efficient, effective, and secure management of IT operational, infrastructure, and network operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Configuration Management Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Develop procedures for identifying, documenting, and managing all Configuration Items (CIs) in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  2. Change Management Integration: Create SOPs that ensure changes to CIs or the IT infrastructure are controlled and minimise risk.
  3. Service Asset and Configuration Management (SACM): Implement procedures for managing service assets and CIs, including inventory control and maintenance of the CMDB.
  4. Data Quality and Compliance: Ensure the CMDB's integrity and compliance with regulations through regular audits and validation activities.
  5. Support for Service Management: Provide accurate configuration data to support incident, problem, and service level management processes.
  6. Communication and Training: Develop training programs to ensure IT staff understands and follows the SOPs.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update SOPs based on performance metrics and feedback to align with business needs.
  8. Capacity Planning: Utilise insights from CIs for capacity planning, supporting future resource planning and current resource optimization to facilitate strategic investments.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. ITIL certification, with a focus on Configuration Management (ITIL CM) preferred.
  2. Proven experience in Configuration Management, IT service management, or related fields.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  4. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  5. Proficiency in CMDB tools and IT asset management systems preferably previous experience using ServiceNow.
  6. Ability to prioritise tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Knowledge of regulatory standards and best practices related to IT asset management and security.

Essential criteria:
  • Experience in implementation and support of a Configuration Management Database.
  • Ability to develop and maintain policies, procedures, and standards for the CMDB that are in line with organisational objectives and ITIL best practices.
  • Significant experience managing functions and delivering results within a recognised Service Management platform, preferably ServiceNow.

Desirable criteria:
  • ITIL 3 or ITIL 4 Foundations certification or equivalent demonstrated experience implementing recognised IT Service Management methodologies within a highly complex and evolving environment.

The role has an initial 12-month contract with a possible 12-month contract extension. Positions are to be based in the Client's Canberra office. The team's preference is for the candidate to work in the office a minimum of 60% (such as 3 days per week or 6 days per fortnight). Variations to this arrangement can be discussed with the director.

Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must be Australian citizens who can obtain Federal Government Security Clearances.
