Duration: 6-month contract + strong chance of extension
We’re partnering with a Victorian Government organisation to bring on an experienced Senior Windows Computing Engineer to support a critical infrastructure project within a research-focused environment.
This role will play a key part in maintaining a legacy Windows VM environment while supporting the migration of ~30 researchers to a modernised platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day systems, network, and storage administration across Windows environments
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues impacting performance, availability, and data integrity
- Support and manage internal/user tickets across infrastructure services
- Design and implement automation scripts to improve system reliability and administration
- Contribute to the design, documentation, and support of scientific computing platforms
- Proactively identify and resolve issues impacting project and business outcomes
- Strong experience administering Windows Server (2016+) and Windows 10+ environments
- Deep knowledge of Active Directory, including DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Proven experience with user management, patching, and security auditing
- Hands-on experience managing virtualised infrastructure (desktop + server)
- Strong troubleshooting capability across infrastructure and systems
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes
- Automation experience using PowerShell
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. SaltStack, Ansible)
- Experience with endpoint security tools (e.g. Defender for Endpoint, CrowdStrike)
- Exposure to XCP-NG or similar hypervisors
- Background working in scientific, research, or life sciences environments
- Ability to engage with stakeholders and translate requirements into solutions
- Valid driver’s licence (very occasional site visits)
- Willingness to complete a police check
