About the Role: Our Federal Government Client is seeking a Lead Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric / Azure. This is a long-term contract role 12-month initial contract with 2 x 12-month extension options, located at our client’s Canberra office (on-site, 5 days per week).
As the selected candidate, you will:
• Design and maintain scalable batch and real-time data pipelines
• Develop and optimise ETL/ELT workflows using tools such as Azure Data Factory, Spark, and Microsoft Fabric
• Build and manage data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse architectures
• Implement solutions using Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Analytics)
• Develop and optimise semantic models integrated with Power BI
• Collaborate with BI teams to transition legacy reporting into Power BI
• Ensure high data quality, integrity, and availability
• Configure data governance, lineage tracking, and monitoring
• Implement data security best practices including encryption, RBAC, and auditing
• Engage with stakeholders and provide technical leadership across projects
To be successful in this role you should have:
• Minimum 7+ years’ experience in a similar Data Engineering role
• Strong experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory
• Experience with data storage solutions such as OneLake and ADLS Gen2
• Proven experience in data modelling, Delta Lake architecture, Dataflows Gen2, and Fabric pipelines
• Experience working with legacy systems such as SQL Server and SSAS (Multidimensional)
• Strong understanding of data security practices including Row-Level Security (RLS)
• Experience with DevOps practices and tools
It is desirable if you have:
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD processes
• Experience working with Azure SQL Databases
• Exposure to trade or statistical analysis systems
Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must be Australian citizens with an active NV1 security clearance.
