We are seeking an experienced Internal Audit Senior Manager to lead the delivery of risk-based audits across a major Australian Bank. Reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, you will provide independent assurance over governance, risk management, and control frameworks, while partnering with senior stakeholders to identify emerging risks and drive continuous improvement.
This role will see you lead complex audits across operational, financial, regulatory, and strategic risk areas, delivering insights that support executive decision-making and strengthen the organisation's risk and control environment.
Contract Length: 6 months, with a view to extend or conversion to permanent
Location: Melbourne, Bendigo, Brisbane or Adelaide CBD, 2 days wfh/week
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver complex, risk-based audits across key business areas.
- Oversee multiple concurrent audit engagements, including planning, resourcing, and quality assurance.
- Assess the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control frameworks.
- Provide independent challenge on risk acceptability, control effectiveness, and remediation strategies.
- Deliver actionable audit insights and escalate systemic and thematic risk issues.
- Present audit outcomes and risk insights to Senior Management, Risk Committees, and Board Committees.
- Influence senior stakeholders on risk prioritisation and control improvements.
- Lead and develop high-performing audit teams through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
- Contribute to the strategic audit plan and continuous improvement of audit methodology and risk frameworks.
- Represent Internal Audit in industry forums and external stakeholder engagements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and prudential requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Extensive Internal Audit, Risk, or Assurance experience within banking or financial services.
- Proven experience leading complex audits across operational, financial, governance, regulatory, and strategic risk areas.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and present to Executive and Board-level audiences.
- Strong people leadership experience, including team management, coaching, and development.
- Sound understanding of APRA, ASIC and broader regulatory requirements within financial services.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Relevant qualifications such as CA, CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent.
