An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Artificial Intelligence Cyber Security & Controls Engineer to support a major Federal Government department within its Cyber Security, Cloud and Networks environment.
This role sits within a highly specialised cyber security team responsible for safeguarding critical ICT systems and ensuring secure, responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence technologies across the enterprise. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping AI governance, implementing security controls, managing AI-related risks, and strengthening cyber resilience against emerging threats.
Key Responsibilities AI Governance & Security Controls
- Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of AI governance frameworks.
- Support enterprise AI strategies that enhance cyber security capabilities.
- Design and implement AI security control frameworks aligned with risk, privacy, compliance and security requirements.
- Develop policies, standards and procedures governing AI usage.
- Assess AI solutions against security, privacy, ethical and legislative obligations.
- Establish governance processes covering accountability, transparency, assurance and monitoring.
- Conduct research on emerging AI technologies and associated cyber security risks.
- Perform AI risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Evaluate AI use cases and provide guidance on secure deployment.
- Monitor emerging threats including prompt injection, model manipulation, unauthorised AI usage and data leakage.

- Demonstrated experience in AI governance, cyber security governance, information security or technology risk.
- Strong experience implementing cyber security and compliance controls within Microsoft 365 environments.
- Experience deploying Microsoft Purview, DLP and Information Protection technologies in support of AI governance initiatives.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across technical, business and policy teams.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI principles, AI governance frameworks, privacy and data protection requirements, cyber security controls and risk management practices.
- Knowledge of Australian Government security frameworks including:
- PSPF
- ISM
- Essential Eight
- NIST frameworks
