Contract: 12‑month initial + strong view to long‑term extension (significant program runway)
Location: Melbourne CBD (3 days per week onsite)
The Opportunity You’ll work closely with the V&V Manager and broader engineering teams to deliver end‑to‑end verification and validation across a complex, integrated network environment. The role focuses heavily on formal performance testing, network validation, and proving system behaviour in the presence of stakeholders and regulators.
This environment demands a highly safety‑conscious mindset, where packet loss, latency, or degradation are not acceptable.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop and execute system‑level and network‑level test plans, procedures, and documentation
- Perform formal verification and validation activities across mission‑critical networks
- Conduct performance testing of complex network environments, including:
- Latency, packet loss, jitter, and voice performance
- End‑to‑end communications paths across integrated systems
- Validate systems that interface with:
- Routers, switches, servers, and enterprise systems
- Networks supporting real‑time and safety‑critical communications
- Use measurement and test tools (software and hardware) to prove system performance and quality
- Perform packet‑level analysis (e.g. packet sniffing, tracing, verification of packet delivery)
- Identify, investigate, and troubleshoot packet‑related issues across complex networks
- Support controlled test environments and coordinated testing across vendors and subsystems
- Work closely with Systems Engineering, QA, Configuration, and external stakeholders
- Identify risks, issues, and improvement opportunities throughout the V&V lifecycle
- Australian Citizen (eligible for NV1 security clearance)
- Proven experience in Verification & Validation, system testing, network testing, or integration testing
- Background working in complex, enterprise-scale or mission‑critical networks
- Experience performing formal testing to measure and prove technical performance
- Strong understanding of:
- Network equipment (routers, switches, servers)
- Packet‑based communications and networking principles
- Experience validating critical networks where reliability, safety, and quality are paramount
- Solid understanding of SDLC, testing methodologies, and structured test execution
- Network performance testing:
- Packet loss, latency, delay, jitter, and voice quality
- Packet‑level troubleshooting and analysis
- Tools such as Wireshark or similar packet sniffing technologies
- Experience configuring or validating:
- Routers and switches
- Network interfaces (e.g. RJ45 / Ethernet connections)
- Ability to perform network V&V, including evidence‑based verification that packets and data flows behave as designed
- Experience in government, defence, aviation, or other highly regulated environments
- Exposure to VoIP, radios, or telephony systems
- Automated testing experience
- Jira, Confluence, or similar tools
