The Role
This is a hands-on Tech Lead position for someone who still loves building software but has experience leading teams. You’ll take technical ownership of a core digital platform and IoT services, while guiding a team of around ten engineers.
A key focus of the role is actively contributing to the refactoring and migration of the IoT layer from Java/.NET to Node.js, alongside owning the AWS environment and modern DevOps practices. You’ll be close to the code, close to the team, and closely aligned with product and stakeholders.
What You’ll Be Doing
- You’ll take end-to-end ownership of the React and Node.js platform and its supporting IoT services, remaining hands-on with development, architecture decisions, and code quality.
- You’ll lead the modernisation of legacy systems, reducing technical debt while improving scalability and reliability.
- You’ll own and evolve the AWS infrastructure, driving best practice across security, performance, cost management, and reliability. You’ll also define and improve DevOps processes including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, logging, and automation.
- Alongside the technical work, you’ll lead and mentor a team of engineers, supporting delivery, sprint planning, and technical execution, while partnering closely with Product to deliver meaningful platform improvements.
What We’re Looking Fo r
- You’re an experienced software engineer who has stepped into leadership but still enjoys being hands-on.
- You bring strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React, and have worked on the modernisation of legacy platforms, including migrations from Java and/or .NET.
- You’re comfortable owning AWS infrastructure end to end and have solid DevOps capability across CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and monitoring.
- Experience working with IoT platforms, device communication, or real-time systems is highly regarded, but not essential.
- Most importantly, you take real ownership of what you build, care about quality, and enjoy working in a fast-moving, collaborative environment where your technical decisions have real-world impact.
