The role:
This is a pivotal 12-month fixed-term opportunity with genuine scope to extend. As Principal IT Architect, you’ll provide senior technical leadership across the organisation’s information technology landscape — shaping IT solution architectures that enable business capabilities across applications, integration, data, and platforms. You’ll sit within a Technology Infrastructure Platform team that acts as a trusted design authority, FinOps and Cloud Centre of Excellence, working closely with Cloud, Infrastructure, Security, and Control Systems Architects to ensure solutions operate effectively as integrated hybrid platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Provide senior architecture leadership across IT domains, formulating the roadmap and programme that powers the Technology Infrastructure Platforms.
- Lead the design of IT solutions that meet business and operational requirements, ensuring alignment to technology standards and principles.
- Act as design authority for IT initiatives, reviewing solution designs, guiding delivery teams, and ensuring alignment to architectural guardrails.
- Define and maintain IT reference architectures, patterns, and standards to support consistent, high-quality solution design.
- Lead the development of technology and domain roadmaps, providing input into sequencing, dependencies, and architectural risk.
- Partner with delivery teams and vendors to ensure solutions are implemented in line with architectural intent.
- Mentor and uplift capability across technology teams through best practice, design development support, and architecture artefacts.
- Extensive background as a Principal, Lead, or Senior IT Architect, designing solutions across infrastructure, cloud, applications, integration, data, and platforms in large, complex organisations.
- Strong command of modern IT architectures including API-led integration, automation, orchestration, data platforms, enterprise applications, and cloud-enabled solutions.
- Cloud-fluent, with proven ability to collaborate with cloud architects and engineering teams to design solutions that leverage cloud services appropriately within hybrid environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead solution design, influence technical direction, and support delivery teams through complex programmes of work.
- Effective communicator and collaborator, able to engage credibly with architects, engineers, vendors, and senior stakeholders.
- Experience in the energy, utilities, or critical infrastructure sector.
- Familiarity with Operational Technology (OT) environments and OT/IT convergence considerations.
- Experience working within architecture governance frameworks and participating in design review forums.
