The Power BI Developer will be responsible for designing and building interactive dashboards and reports that support our state government department's data and analytics objectives. The role focuses on delivering clear, intuitive visualisations that drive informed decision-making, working closely with data teams and business stakeholders to develop impactful reporting solutions.
Responsabilities:
- Design and deliver Power BI dashboards and reports in line with the organisation’s Data, BI, and Analytics requirements.
- Build and maintain semantic models, optimising datasets for reporting while ensuring alignment with the medallion architecture.
- Produce comprehensive technical documentation for Power BI solutions, including data sources, measures, and calculations.
- Lead and support user acceptance testing (UAT), incorporating feedback to enhance reporting solutions.
- Train and support business users in the effective use of Power BI dashboards and reports.
Essential
- Proven experience designing and developing Power BI dashboards and reports
- Strong proficiency in SQL, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), and Power Query
- Solid understanding of data visualisation principles and industry best practices
- Experience building and managing semantic models to support reporting and analytics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Sound understanding of data governance principles
- Experience with medallion architecture or equivalent data layering approaches (e.g. Raw, Standardised, Consumer layers)
- Familiarity with CI/CD DevOps practices for analytics and BI solutions
- Knowledge of Azure Databricks and cloud-based data platforms
- Experience working within an insurance organisation or other highly regulated environment
- Experience analysing and visualising financial data
