Peoplebank is exclusively recruiting a Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Australia, a globally respected, mission-driven humanitarian organisation.
About MSF
MSF delivers critical medical and humanitarian services in complex and high-risk environments around the world. Guided by principles of neutrality, independence and accountability, MSF operates at scale to support vulnerable communities through emergency response, advocacy and long-term impact programs. With increasing reliance on secure, resilient and modern technology, MSF Australia is investing in its digital capability to support staff, partners and mission delivery.
The Opportunity
This is a newly created CIO role and a rare chance to shape the technology, data and cybersecurity strategy of a globally connected, purpose-led organisation. Reporting to the Executive Director and as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CIO will develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy that drives digital transformation while embedding robust cybersecurity and risk management practices. The role oversees IT, data and cybersecurity functions, including leadership of the data capability, with accountability for an annual technology budget.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver an organisation-wide IT and cybersecurity strategy aligned to business and mission objectives
• Lead digital transformation initiatives that are secure, scalable and fit for purpose
• Own MSF Australia’s cybersecurity posture, resilience and incident response capability
• Enable the data function through strong governance, secure platforms and advanced analytics
• Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary IT and cybersecurity team
• Manage strategic vendor relationships, ensuring service quality, security and value for money
• Oversee technology budgets, forecasting and investment decisions
• Partner with executive leaders and the Board to provide clear insight on technology, data and cyber risk
About You
You are a hands-on, pragmatic technology leader motivated by purpose and impact rather than title. You are comfortable operating in a smaller, agile environment, willing to roll up your sleeves, and able to engage confidently at executive and Board level.
You will bring:
• Extensive experience in senior IT leadership roles, including digital transformation and cybersecurity oversight
• Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, systems integration and cyber risk management
• Proven experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets and optimising technology investment
• The ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear guidance for non-technical stakeholders
• A collaborative, servant-leader mindset aligned with not-for-profit values
• Experience in not-for-profit, NGO or globally connected organisations is highly regarded
Why This Role
This is a pivotal leadership role where technology directly enables humanitarian impact. The CIO will ensure MSF Australia’s digital and cybersecurity environment is secure, resilient and future-ready, supporting staff and partners to deliver life-saving outcomes.
About the Recruitment
This search is being led by Dan Gordon (Recruitment Practice Lead) and Nic Gulliver (Lead Recruiter). Together they bring more than 40 years’ IT recruitment experience, with over 15 years recruiting executive positions collaboratively.
