What you'll be doing
- Maintaining and expanding the core ISP network that delivers connectivity to customers, with points of presence in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne.
- Acting as a contributor on assigned infrastructure projects, providing subject matter expertise and designs.
- Providing final point of escalation support for network and support teams – assisting to resolve complex issues.
- Training up other staff members in the use and troubleshooting of Juniper and MikroTik in a residential ISP environment.
- Assist development team with configuration templates and building automation across client routers/switching infrastructure/core routers on the network
- Work with the sales team and clients to assist in pre and post-sales engineering for the sale of complete residential, office and BMS connectivity as well as test phase, deployment templating and rollout of new technologies for wireless and wired connectivity.
- Assist software development team with the testing of in-house management and monitoring systems as they relate to the network being configured and deployed.
- Assist with major out of business hours upgrades to network and infrastructure as required for ongoing growth.
- Participate in after hours on-call roster for emergency outages
Skills and experience
- Strong Juniper JunOS capability in a production ISP or enterprise-grade environment — JNCIA or deeper certifications valued
- MikroTik RouterOS – experience highly advised but on-the-job training is possible
- Routing protocols - OSPF, BGP, MPLS VPN, EVPN-VXLAN.
- ISP Related Services – PPPoE, Hotspot, Radius, Netflow – a basic understanding of each and their usage
- ISP Core networking - setting up and managing peering (including via IX and bilateral) and transit
- Understanding of optical (both point to point and GPON) as well as point to point fixed wireless networking
- Data centre operations - installing and troubleshooting cross connects and equipment.
- Working with carriers - ordering and troubleshooting dark fibre, layer 2 and direct internet access services, cross connects, data centre facilities
- Some systems administration familiarity - virtualization, Linux, servers, storage.
- Ability to monitor bandwidth usage on links and forecast capacity requirements.
- Monitoring via SNMP, Netflow, IPFlow
- Security - TACACS+, understanding of firewall configuration for securing management and customer networks.
The following will be highly regarded:
- JNCIS-SP
- Some automation experience - Python, Ansible.
- Experience designing and deploying fixed wireless services
- Experience ordering and deploying dark fiber services
- Experience with any of the following vendors wireless products: Cambium, Ubiquiti, Mimosa, IgniteNet, MikroTik
- Experience with any of the following vendors networking products: Juniper, MikroTik, Ubiquiti, ADTRAN, Huawei
