This is a short-term contract role (6 weeks with possible 2-week extension) located at our client’s Mitchell, Canberra office. Onsite work is expected, with collaboration across hardware, firmware, and engineering teams.
As the selected candidate, you will:
- Lead, validate, and optimise radio configurations for IoT devices in Unit Metering projects.
- Ensure compliance of radio parameters with regulatory and Icon Water standards.
- Review and analyse wireless network performance metrics such as signal strength, packet loss, latency, jitter, and throughput.
- Conduct field surveys, range testing, and RF interference analysis.
- Develop and execute validation plans, test methodologies, and acceptance criteria.
- Troubleshoot and optimise wireless performance through antenna adjustments, radio parameter tuning, and network design improvements.
- Produce technical reports with performance findings and vendor recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support end-to-end wireless solution development.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Wireless Systems, or related field.
- Hands-on experience with IoT communication technologies and physical/MAC layer parameters.
- Strong understanding of wireless standards (RF, LoRa, NB-IoT, LTE-M, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi).
- Proficiency with RF test equipment (spectrum analyser, signal generators, network analysers).
- Experience analysing network performance data using Wireshark, MATLAB, Python, or specialised RF/network monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of antenna design, placement, and RF interference mitigation.
- Proven ability to develop and execute IoT network test plans and validation frameworks.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Experience with IoT device deployment in large-scale field environments.
- Knowledge of network simulation or propagation modelling tools.
- Familiarity with mesh network protocols and LPWAN technologies.
- Certifications in wireless networking.
- Experience in digital government and/or utility environments.
