About the Role As an Infrastructure Systems Administrator, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of complex Defence ICT infrastructure. This hands-on role spans Windows Server, Linux (RHEL), networking, virtualisation, and cybersecurity technologies — supporting and enhancing mission-critical systems in a secure Defence environment.
You’ll collaborate closely with technical specialists and key Defence stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-performance infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Windows Server 2022 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 systems
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and system security/hardening
- Configure, support, and optimise Hyper-V and VMware virtual environments
- Manage Veeam Backup & Replication, including disaster recovery testing and planning
- Configure and troubleshoot Cisco switches/routers and FortiGate firewalls
- Maintain LAN, WAN, and VPN infrastructure with a focus on uptime and security
- Support the integration of simulation systems and architecture
- Ensure compliance with Defence cyber standards and policies
- Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell and Bash scripting
- Provide Tier 2/3 support and maintain detailed operational documentation
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams within structured change management processes
You’ll bring:
- 5+ years’ experience as a Systems Administrator in a medium-to-large IT environment
- Strong experience with Windows Server and/or RHEL systems
- Proven skills with Cisco networking and FortiGate firewalls(VLANs, routing, VPNs, multicast)
- In-depth understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Hands-on experience with Hyper-V, VMware, and Veeam
- Strong networking knowledge: TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, multicast
- Awareness of cybersecurity principles and Defence information assurance
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
