The role:
The Technical Lead/Senior Desktop Engineer will hands-on, senior member of the Infrastructure support team who will lead a team responsible for support, installation, configuration and maintenance over 1500 virtualised Citrix desktops, plus additional desktop, laptop and tablet PCs, mobile phones, iPads and other end-user devices in a 24x7 environment.
This is an internal customer-facing role, and requires proven prioritisation, responsiveness, and customer service skills, along with excellent verbal communication skills
Key Accountabilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain standard architecture for endpoints utilizing virtualized desktop systems (Citrix XenApp and VDI)
- Design, implement, and maintain standard desktop, laptop, tablet, or other endpoint systems and devices
- Create policies and documented standards for deployment of technology throughout the desktop environment
- Build and design desktop solutions that minimize downtime to end users when service disruptions arise.
- Evaluate tickets for ongoing performance improvement opportunities and reduction of endpoint incidents
- Plan, scope, upgrade and patch desktop platforms in accordance with IT policies
- Provide primary support as per the 24x7 rotating support roster
The following are the key skills and experience required for the right candidate:
- Previous experience as technical lead for 2000+ user desktop rollout using Citrix Xenapp
- 10+ years industry experience working within a large enterprise desktop computing environment
- Strong understanding of client side architectures, software lifecycle, and system design
- Design and architectural experience with SMS/SCCM (and/or other desktop management suites)
- Advanced level troubleshooting skills and root cause analysis of the Desktop environment
- Experience troubleshooting and enhancing desktop security and configuration management through Group Policy Objects (GPO), in-depth experience with Active Directory and GPOs/GPPs as well as the ability to create custom policies
- Deep knowledge of Citrix products and features based on XenApp/XenDesktop, NetScaler, PVS/MCS
- In-depth competency running Citrix on VMWare, Azure or AWS
- Deep knowledge of application packaging and App-V
Certification - highly regarded:
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification and/or
- Citrix CCA for Citrix XenDesktop certification
- CCP-V Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization
- CCE-V Citrix Certified Expert - Virtualization
- CCA-N Citrix Certified Associate - Networking
- CCP-N Citrix Certified Professional - Networking
