Our client is looking a Research Officer / Data Scientist with good background of statistical knowledge.

Work Location - Canberra

Description of the role

The position will be working within the Research & Methods team within the NCLD, primarily on survey design and data cleaning. The individual would assist in a range of activities related to survey design and development including preparation of survey content, preparing briefing papers regarding the content, survey instrument specifications and testing.


The candidate is expected to have good data skills and a good understanding of the use of data in research and/or policy. Experience with a range of data analysis techniques, preferably on large data sets or longitudinal data would be highly regarded.


Experience in undertaking survey design and/or data cleaning in social policy and/or child development related field(s) would be highly valuable. A working knowledge of multivariate statistical methods used in longitudinal data analysis and /or use of large data sets would also be beneficial.

Familiarity with the use of STATA, SPSS or SAS to conduct analysis.
Experience with large longitudinal data sets would be advantageous. In addition skills in survey and item design and a capacity to source, design and review items would be valuable. The ability to analyse information and the capacity to work independently and instigate and follow through on projects is important.
The position requires initiative and motivation and the ability to set priorities, monitor own performance and produce high quality work.


Knowledge of child and adolescent development and factors affecting well being across the life course would be highly regarded.


The successful candidate is expected to develop strong working relationships and communicate regularly with a range of key stakeholders within DSS and contractors. Therefore, well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to contribute to a team beyond the immediate DSS team and develop productive working relationships with stakeholders are essential. Experience in government sector stakeholder engagement is highly desirable.
