Perth IT&T Market Update: July 2009
While the effect of the Global Financial Crisis in the Perth IT&T market was delayed in comparison to other Australian cities, recent local market strengthening has coincided with similar improvements in other capital cities.
Demand for contractors has strengthened to pre-December 2008 levels. Driving the demand is a combination of new budgets and existing projects now being restarted with the start of
a new financial year.
Demand for permanent staff still remains fairly flat, although there was a slight improvement in June and we are seeing a continuing upward trend in July.
Looking ahead, we forecast ongoing strong contract requirements across the Perth market as clients continue to prefer flexibility in their IT and project teams.
We are confident that the permanent recruitment market will show signs of strengthening after August and into the final quarter of the calendar year.
In Demand Skills
Java Developers and Project Managers are currently in strongest demand for the Perth market.
We are also seeing high demand for .Net Programmers, SQL Server Database Administrators, Sharepoint Developers, Sharepoint Administrators and Technical Writers.
Salaries and Contract Rates
In line with current market sentiment, both permanent salaries and contract rates have remained flat over the past three months.
