Project architects, programmers and related technicians are some of the hotly contested IT skills that have experienced salary increases so far this year, according to a new survey.
The Peoplebank quarterly Salary Survey, indicated that despite a slow start to hiring, pay rises were evident in some of the 50 IT roles it tracks across Australia’s main cities.

National IT Market Update - March 2011
Over the past quarter Australia’s IT hiring market has been characterised by slower-than-usual hiring activity early in the year in New South Wales and Victoria, while major issues (such as the Queensland floods) have given rise to large regional variations in hiring patterns in the other states.
As a result pay increases have been evident in only a select few of the 50 IT roles we track.
Peoplebank Intermedium Federal Labour Hire Index: November 2010
As at June 2010, the Index stood at 1,316, a 141 point increase in the six months since the December 2009 figure (1,175) and an increase of 12.2% over the half year.
This increase is almost entirely due to a seasonal increase in June, as agencies initiate renewals of longer term (6 months +) contracts.
The June 2010 Index movement is markedly similar to that indicated by the June 2009 Index, which – despite post-Gershon Report moves to reduce the Federal Government’s reliance on ICT contractors – also rose 20% over the preceding six months.

The firm’s quarterly salary survey noted a number of pay rises amongst the IT field, however reported not all of the 50 IT roles it monitors Australia-wide were so lucky.
