Welcome to our Xstrata Cycle for SMILE Blog
The Xstrata Cycle for SMILE - Supporting Medical Innovation for Life Enhancement
On Thursday 30th June, six everyday Australians are embarking on a ride around Australia. Leaving Sydney, they will cycle a total of 80 days averaging 220km per day, that’s 15,700km in total!
All in support of SMILE.
The SMILE Foundation is a national charity that supports children with rare diseases. It does this by providing financial assistance through its Family Relief Program and as well as funding research into rare medical conditions.
Currently in Australia, there are over 9,000 rare diseases affecting 400,000 children.
The Xstrata Cycle for SMILE aims to raise over $1,000,000!
Peoplebank is a Gold Sponsor of this event but more than just our financial donation; the staff of Peoplebank are contributing their time to act as “support crews.”
40 of our staff will be allocated around Australia to act as drivers, cooks, and general “gophers” to help
the six guys achieve this mammoth task.
Our staff will be sharing their experiences on this blog as they travel around the country supporting the cyclists.
